URLs
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, but you don't
need to remember that. What you should remember is that every document
on the Internet has a unique address and that address is called a URL.
Anatomy of a URL
Example:
http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org
http://
This lets you know that you are accessing a Web
page. It is not necessary to type this when you enter a URL.
www
Stands for World Wide Web. Most, but not all,
Web pages have this in their address.
brooklynpubliclibrary
This is the host name. It is usually, but not
always, some form of the name of the organization whose Web
site you are visiting.
org
This is the domain. It tells you something about
the kind of organization you are exploring.
