Music Production at the Library: Keyboards

Learn the basics of keyboards right here at Brooklyn Public Library. This workshop will cover the basics of the keyboard at a beginner level, including notes, chords, melody, and harmony. We will use keyboards with recording software, choose and sample sounds, and use basic music theory to craft a track together from scratch. Drop-ins welcome, space limited to seven participants. Every participant will have the opportunity to play and create with a keyboard.

Carlos Hernandez is a musician, producer and audio engineer from Brooklyn, NY. With over 20 years experience running recording sessions, Carlos has become a go-to producer for NYC underground music, working with artists such as Princess NokiaPalehoundL’RainJuan WautersFrankie Cosmos, Rachika NayarNappy NinaEartheater, and many more.

His band, Ava Luna, has been described by the New York Times as “...post-soul... pulsating from one energy to another, suggesting art project and ritual.” And his 2022 solo album was described by Pitchfork as “an excellent solo album of minimalist funk and R&B pared down to its barest essence.”
