Introduction

Brooklyn Connections LogoThanks to the generous support of the New York Life Foundation, hundreds of 8th graders across Brooklyn will have special access to the Brooklyn Collection, an archive of more than a million items, including original photographs, newspapers, maps and manuscripts.

Brooklyn Connections strives to help students and teachers undertake the required Social Studies Exit Project through an enjoyable and efficient process. Over the course of the year, students tour the collection, participate in primary source workshops at school, and attend after school hours. With the help of library staff, each student will be able to complete a project using the resources available at the Brooklyn Collection. In the process, they will learn about the history of their borough and develop life-long research and document analysis skills.
